What is Utsunomiya Fireworks Festival …
Utsunomiya City's first fireworks festival was held in 1984 as the "Celebration '84 Tochigi Expo Kinugawa Grand Fireworks Festival". At that time, local companies sponsored ・ the event, but the cooling of the local economy in 2003 forced the city to cancel it the following year.

Then in 2007, four years after the cancellation.

Volunteers who gathered to "once again display fireworks in the night sky of Utsunomiya" formed an executive committee, and the event made an unprecedented comeback under volunteer management.

The committee started with only a few people, but gradually grew in number and became more active, with as many as 50 volunteers gathering for that year's event.

In 2012, we established "NPO Utsunomiya Hyakunen Hanabi", the first non-profit organization for a fireworks display, in order to "ensure that this fireworks display will continue uninterrupted for another 100 years".

Although the Utsunomiya Fireworks Festival started anew as a volunteer-run event, there have been many difficulties over the past 16 years.

Even so, we still had to keep our positive attitude and do our best to "bring smiles to the faces of the children who watch these fireworks and to all the people who see them. With this in mind, we, the members, remained positive and never faltered and continued to hold this event every year.

Thanks to your warm support ・, this year marks the 17th anniversary of the volunteer-run Utsunomiya Fireworks Festival.
